Blog 1- Writing Challenges
Posted by Maria Martinez at Monday, January 23, 2017 11:40:03 PM Writing could vary from easy to hard depending on what the reason for writing is. There is free expression writing where rules are very limited and order may not be as important. On the other hand, there is also writing such as advertisement that needs to promote an item. In my opinion, some of the areas of difficulty is knowing what rules to follow depending on the writing, source formatting, and expressing the right idea or emotion. Granted, writing has its place in different areas but there must be an order. Although for some it may make it easier I think it also takes away some of the creativity that you may see in free writing. The typical writing process of a theme, thesis, outline, rough draft, and other steps makes it difficult for me to write sometimes. While in high school what worked better for me is writing an assigned essay first and then going back to add the main idea or an outline. Finding my style has been a challenge for me and I still come across situations where I just don't know where to start. Another difficult area for me is the APA source guideline because it to me it is easier to write about my own ideas without having to use other sources as support. That as well, in my opinion, takes the creativity away and may not completely reflect my way of thinking. Lastly, I must also say note that creating the right emotion for the audience in just words is a challenge. Our facial expressions or movements say more sometimes than words. I have been in several interviews throughout my job and the presentation of an individual talks for itself. To be able to express the right emotion in writing requires the right words and sometimes right punctuation. To have the audience feel the emotion that I am trying to express with my writing is still a work in progress.
