Biosensors
Biosensors example We talked about “biosensors” in class, noting that a biosensor consists of a “traditional” sensor (that senses conductivity, pH, light transmittance, etc.) and a “bio” component (enzyme, microbe, cell, etc.).
Your task: 1) Find an example of a biosensor (this can be any application area such as environmental, medical, general chemical, etc.)
2) Summarize in a 1-2 page document
(this can include illustrations, graphs, diagrams, etc.):
The basics of the biosensor: – the “biocomponent” (is it an enzyme, microbe, etc. and how is it present within the sensor) –
what is being sensed? –
how it is being sensed – accuracy/precision – estimated lifespan (how long is the biosensor functional)
Note: pick an application example other than “glucose monitors” (this was an in-class application example).
