Basics of social research
Refer to the journal article document for our assigned article. My last name starts with a “D, “and my field of study is within psychology and counseling, which makes my article for evaluation be “When mobility makes sense: A qualitative and longitudinal study of the daily mobility of the elderly (Laurette, 2019).” With our article assigned to us, we are to “evaluate the research questions and hypotheses. Second, identify the type of qualitative research approach used and explain how the researchers implemented the design. Finally, analyze alignment among the theoretical or conceptual framework, problem, purpose, research questions, and design (Laureate, 2019).”
This is a qualitative research article, as it does not provide scientific data to back up their research. Yes, they do mention on how, “Research conducted in different parts of the world converges to say that the vast majority of aged suburbanites wish to live as long as possible in their “home” (AARP, 2000, Després and Lord, 2002, Després and Lord, 2005; Groves & Wilson, 1993).” However, this is not factual information without scientific data to provide us the facts that make the article a qualitative research method to be perceived as a narrative, ethnographic, grounded theory, and case study. The way that the author implemented these methods into the article also aligned with the research questions and hypotheses. I have to say that the material possesses a conceptual framework, “This being said, the concept of déprise lacks theoretical articulation in terms of its link to the spatial dimensions of geographical contexts (Lord, Després & Ramadier, 2011).”
Some of the problems described in the article are choosing to adapt one’s lifestyle, the shrinking city, the fragmented city, and the town by proxy which caused, “the longitudinal study of the daily mobility of 22 elderly suburbanites shows that the urban and residential experience of elderly suburbanites is in general positive, even when independence is threatened ((Lord, Després & Ramadier, 2011).” The purpose of the research was to understand or get a broader understanding of why, “Aging at “home” in the suburbs illustrates the complexity of the residential experience (Lord, Després & Ramadier, 2011).” This drew the question of why mobility made sense to many individuals. The author took this upon themselves and designed research to better understand the dedication and lifestyle individuals were seeking to fill in the gaps to their why questions.
