After reading the article, think about the author’s main points and organize them into a summary using this format:

Be sure that the summary has the following qualities.

1. College level writing: free from spelling and grammatical problems
2. Little to no use of direct text from the paper
3. The page count is 350 words.
4. Paragraph’s 2 & 3 should be meat of summary!
5. Use article as only reference.

Format:

1. First paragraph

Starts with a sentence that gives the title and author of the paper.

Then the paragraph summarizes the author’s main point: what is the single point he is hoping to get across to you? This would usually be in the first section of the article as well.

2. Second paragraph gives an overview of what the author describes in his writing. Do not repeat their fine details, but sum up what they wrote. What is the point of each section?
3. Third paragraph involves your own connection to the writing. Reflect on any connections you can think of between what the author described and your own life experience. For example, how do you think you would do in his place?
4. Fourth paragraph concludes your summary. State again the author’s main point with his essay.
