Art Review Youtube

Ways of Seeing was originally broadcast in 1972 by the BBC. The four-part documentary series served as a response to Kenneth Clark’s television series (and book) called Civilisation that had aired 3 years prior. Clark was a British art historian and museum director. Berger and other critics felt that Civilisation focused too much on male artists and Western/European views on art. Keep that mind when watching Berger’s episode.

1.) What are some ways the invention of the camera has changed how we view art?

2.) How does the location of an image change our perspective of it?

3.) Despite the existence of reproductions, does Berger argues there is still merit to seeing original works in person?
