Discussions
All Discussion Board posts must adhere to the following guidelines:
Create your post with inserted text and images. Attach a Microsoft Word document only when posting your inprogress and final essays.
Use SCAD Library resources for all references. These include, but are not limited to SCAD’s Visual Image
Database, JSTOR, ARTStor, and the SCAD Library’s Survey of Western Art Course Resources.
Properly label and credit all images, and cite primary and secondary sources in Chicago/Turabian style. All
properties of the work of art must clearly be identified, including the title, dates/periods, material data (size,
materials, and techniques when known), and museum or location. The SCAD Writers’ Studio provides
additional resources for accurate documentation and crediting all of your sources, both written and visual.
Appropriately apply and integrate course terminology into your posts.
Prompt 2: Realism emerged as a reaction to the escapist fantasies of Romanticism and evolved into an unidealized, blunt, and often critical analysis of contemporary life. Cite at least two examples of Realism in art from two different countries, and explain how the works you chose exemplify this then-new outlook.
