Aristotle’s conception of happiness

Is Aristotle’s conception of happiness subjective or objective, that is, is it fundamentally in the eye of the beholder (subjective), so that you are happy if you feel yourself happy, or is it defined by a state of being and having certain characteristics (i.e., objective) regardless of how you feel? Could a criminal, for example, be happy in Aristotle’s sense?
