Description
This annotated bibliography will be a collection and documentation of five credible sources, three of which need to be from academic journals. Doing quality research now for the annotated bibliography may help save time later when writing your problem-solution paper. However, it is important to remember that it is possible that you may not end up using all the sources you find now for the annotated bibliography. As we research our topics, you may find yourself going in a different direction than you originally anticipated or hitting a dead-end (ugh! I know, but it happens). The annotated bibliography is as much of the brainstorming and pre-writing process as it is about finding and evaluating sources.
For each source, write an MLA or APA Works Cited page entry. With each one entry, write an annotation, which is between a quarter and a half a page in which you explain several things about the source. Specifically, for this class, the annotated bibliography needs to include the following for each source:
a brief summary of the source;
at least one appropriately cited paraphrase from the source;
at least one appropriately cited direct quotation from the source;
direct reference to the source’s credibility;
direct reference to the source’s relevance to the research topic or research question; and
direct reference to how the source will be used in the research paper or why the source will not be used in the research paper.
When you summarize the source, what is its main claim (if it has one—some sources that are strictly fact based are not arguments and do not have a central claim), and how does the source go about developing its information? Is the source controversial? If it is, explain. How groundbreaking, within the field, is this source?
The paraphrase and quotation should be included within the summary section. These should be correctly cited within the annotation.
For the credibility, you will need to tell who the author is, and why that author is a credible source, unless the source is strictly informative, and it comes from a well-known publication. Is the author well known within the field? How old is the source? Is it dated, and if so, is it still relevant?
Each of the items included in the annotation should be in paragraph form. Do not separate out or bullet the different elements for this assignment.
