Analyzing Modern and Historic Speeches

This assessment is related to the following course learning requirements:
CLR1: Explain the role speaking publically (oratory) has played in human society
CLR2: Align individual and cultural perceptions with the concept of storytelling
CLR3: Differentiate between rhetorical devices
CLR4: Critique instances of oratory by practiced and novice speakers
Instructions
Log on to TEDTalks, YouTube or AmericanRhetoric.com to explore famous speeches made by prominent figures.

Compare and contrast two speeches: one from this calendar year (2019) and one from some time at least 25 years in the past. Discuss what makes each speech successful, and also consider their less successful points.

*Please note, speeches studied on this course are not eligible for comparison and will result in a mark of 0.

The speeches you choose should have a common thread of some sort, either due to the topic the theme or the speakers.

Submit an analytical essay of 1000-1500 words, which compares the two speeches in an integrated way (example, do not analyze one in its entirety, and then the other in the next paragraph—instead, draw parallels between the two). Include a full title page, references page, and introduction to your paper, which must include the full name of each speaker, and the year s/he is speaking, as well as the title of the speech. (From then on, refer to your speakers by LAST NAME, not first name, as this is an academic setting).
