Alluvial fans and deltas share some characteristics in terms of overall geometry and depositional processes. However, their deposits can normally be distinguished in the stratigraphic record. First explain the processes and flow conditions that make them similar. Then explain how you would distinguish them in a stratigraphic sequence. You should discuss any aspects of facies (large or small scale), stratigraphic geometry or vertical facies relationships that would help to tell them apart.
