Academic Essay, Comparison On Incarceration: Societal, Physical, and Psychological

Write a paper that compares similarities and differences between Kaysen and Abbott’s experiences with and/or critiques of incarceration. They are different genders, for example, and from different social classes. Do they, however, have similar things to say about incarceration? Or are their experiences and arguments completely different?
You also have to weave one outside source into your essay, either from Smart Search, Google Scholar, or a book from the library.  We’ll practice this in class.

Option 2. Both Kaysen and Abbott critique society’s norms (that which is considered “normal”). Write an essay that discusses how both authors critique certain societal norms during their historical moment of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Then, write about whether you think those norms have changed and/or other current norms are also in fact “sick.”

America does not believe in torture, and therefore its prisons and psychiatric hospitals are supposedly about rehabilitation.  Both Kaysen and Abbott, however, have arguments with that premise.  Write a paper that informs readers of what their arguments are, and then write what you think in response to their arguments.
