Abuse of freedom of press and its implications for democracy in Turkey

Order Description   Analyse and discuss Turkey’s current leading political party: Justice and Development Party (AKP). This has been a crucial issue within Turkey during the last decade. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has shut down 185 media outlets and imprisoned more than 100 journalists only in the past few months. This type of situation has been ongoing for quite a while now, but currently it has worsened due to the failed military coup that was attempted back in July. Imprisonment of innocent men has been creating fury and discontent within Turkey’s society. This essay will analyse and discuss how Erdogan’s power over the press is impacting “democracy” within Turkey. The republic of Turkey was established in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, a man who transformed the nation into a democratic and secular state. It is being said today that Erdogan is trying to undo the works of Ataturk by rendering Turkey and Islamic state with signs of dictatorship within the government. The essay will first analyse and explain the recent political and social situations and events within Turkey.
