A medieval manuscript leaf

Description

You will not be describing the leaf from the Bible that you looked at (each student will see an example of a leaf from the same Bible); rather, you will be describing the other manuscript leaf that you looked at – the one that was different from what the other students saw. If possible, please snap a picture of it on your phone while you are looking at it, and include that with your response paper submission (just stick it into the word document).

In your description of the manuscript leaf, you should consider the following questions:

-How do you think the page was laid out? What marks of its making/design are visible to the eye?

-What is the “geography of the page” in your example? What has been prioritized by the scribe/artist?

-Does your example appear to be from a luxurious and expensive book, or a more regular one? Why? Can you see any signs of use on it?

-How is the leaf similar or different from the Bible leaf that you also looked at?

There is no research required for this assignment; all you need is your eyes, and to include what you learned from the visit to the library. Please describe the page carefully and precisely, pointing out anything that you find significant about its design, appearance, or decoration.
