Review recent research into the international and national (if possible) interventions that contributed to transformation of disadvantaged (eg. isolated, low population density, low economic activity) areas into SMART VILLAGES, discriminating them in three subgroups:

1. Mountainous areas
2. Islands
3. Lowland Areas
