Compare and Contrast Historical Primary Sources
Compare and contrast three different primary sources that we read this semester: The
Narrative of Cabeza de Vaca, Journey into Mohawk Country (or the Journal of H.M. van den Bogaert), and
Olaudah Equiano’s Interesting Narrative (for the purposes of this question, you can ignore the fact that the
graphic novel version of van den Bogaert was illustrated by another person, and just treat it as van den
Bogaert’s primary source). Each of these texts involves a man giving a first person account of things that
happened to him. But these sources were written at different times, for different audiences, and to serve
different purposes
