Factory Farming and Food Quality Issues
Paper details
I included the rubrics and instructions sent by my professor.
This is the discussion board I wrote stating what I would be researching:
With this topic, I will be exploring the safety of food that comes from factory farming along with the impact it has
on those who consume it. I myself try to keep myself educated on where my food comes from and how to
support local sources of food but I am looking forward to diving deeper into this subject. I believe it is a social
justice issue when we consider that these major factory farmers are not transparent about the quality of their
food. There are many things, in regards to quality, that do not have to be reported to the general public or the
FDA when assessing if food is OK to be placed on our shelves. Along with putting the quality of the product at
question, the treatment of the animals, the treatment of the workers, and the treatment of the environment
around these factories will be explored.
When connecting these issues to CST, these themes come to mind:
Life and Dignity of the Human Person, this relates to this factory farming when you compare the quality of food
these companies are selling to people and the amount of money they are making. Often times quality is
compromised for profit, the consumers suffer long term while the companies continue becoming more and
more wealthy.
The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers, this relates to factory farming when we look at the condition the
workers are in and how they are treated by these large companies.
Care for God’s Creation, this relates to factory farming when we look at how the animals are treated and how
the environment around these factory farms is taken care of.
