Why did some Americans oppose the New Deal?

Please take into account Argument, Historiography, Historical knowledge (i.e. facts and context), Evidence.
and Structure.
This essay could lead to lots of topics, but I’d like it to be focused on two or three individuals who opposed the
New Deal and then analyze their rhetoric, motivations and actions, namely Father Coughlin (anti-FDR) and
Henry Luce (conservative republican with his book “The American Century”). As for working class people’s
opinions, while it’s hard to find primary sources of the working class, we could look at politician’s method of
campaign to please them. All these could lead to discussion of how people’s reaction to FDR’s campaign
changed over time, and could focus on 2 types of people, namely those who oppose FDR but became
supporters of his campaign over time, and those who supported him but changed their stance over time.
Although primary sources is not mandatory, I think it would be great to add some of FDR’s political rhetoric, for
instance how he didn’t mention much about the New Deal in the 1st presidential campaign in 1932, but
mentioned & changed some of the rhetoric in 1936. I think that it would be helpful to focus on either politics or
policy. While there is obviously overlap, the paper will likely read better if it comes squarely down on one
aspect.
