Find a health or fitness claim made by a “Popular” source (magazine, blog, podcast, TV etc). Reference (APA)
the claim made by the popular source. If it is audio/video please timestamp the source where I can find the
claim. You will then use PubMed, Google Scholar or similar database to find a peer-reviewed journal article
that either presents evidence that either supports or dismisses the claim. Read the entire journal article in order
to respond to the questions below.
In addition to your references (APA format), answer the following questions on the “Assignment 5” discussion
forum:
What was the popular claim?
What is your opinion of that claim?
What was the main research question of your journal article?
What methods were used to answer that question (animal or human study; group characteristic; what kind of
experiment; length of study; conditions etc.)?
What were the results? Try to boil it down to 3-5 sentences in plain English.
Does this support the “popular claim”?
What is your opinion now after reading your journal article or do you believe you need to read more before
having a more educated opinion?
