Health and the healthcare system

Description

The purpose of this assignment is for the student to reflect on his/her/their learning about health and the healthcare system through one of the perspectives introduced in this course. The student will reflect on one healthcare issue that is of interest (the student may also want to use personal experience as a starting point for this assignment) and will analyse it using one of the perspectives outlined in lectures 3-7 This paper is reflective and does not require outside research; however, if you choose to incorporate outside research, you must reference it properly. The reflective paper must be submitted online to your tutorial group on the Moodle website by 23:55 on. Nov. 25th, 2019. Late papers will receive a deduction of 5% off per day.
Instructions: Maximum 4 pages (not counting cover page or references)

  1. Identify one topic or issue from this course which is of interest to you.
  2. Identify one perspective that was introduced in this course (i.e. Sociological perspective; Political Economy perspective; Human Rights perspective; Gender, Dis/ability, Race or Class analysis) that can be used to analyse this issue.
  3. Examine this issue using the ‘lens’ of the perspective you have chosen.
  4. Explain how this perspective has changed your understanding or view of the issue.
  5. Identify possible changes to Canadian public policy and/or the healthcare system that would improve the status of those affected by this topic/issue. What kinds of steps do you think could be taken? Be specific.

Evaluation Criteria:

Organization and Style: includes title page, subtitles, appropriate in-text citations, complete reference list; paper holds together well—topic is introduced clearly, and student moves through the topic in an organized fashion; Student uses correct spelling, grammar, sentence, and paragraph structure; writing is clear and easy to follow; logical flow of ideas; correct APA format is used (total 20 marks).
Content, Reflection and Analysis: Student demonstrates an understanding of an issue in the Canadian healthcare system; student demonstrates an understanding of a perspective outlined in this course. The student demonstrates application of learned concepts to their personal understanding of an issue (total 80 marks).
