Gentrification

A neighborhood is known by the residents who live there, and the surrounding establishments that makes them unique. Gentrifications’ aim is to wipe out the identity of an existing entity and replace it with a different one. In other words, saturating the neighborhood with wealthy new residents will cause the community to gain a new curb appeal. In the end, the property value increases, more jobs are developed and crime rates become lower. In the midst of all this change, the disadvantaged individuals are driven out by overpriced housing, the identity of the neighborhood is stripped and displacement occurs. There are some pros and cons to gentrification that must be kept in mind because it affects us all as citizens of this great nation.
