A monster w/ a mother cute eh? Perhaps not. This mama have been the origin of women hating. Not really. I say that because it is in that realm of thinking, where women were temptresses, of carnal natures, and always ready to leas men astray. Think Eve. The cult of the virgin (ie.Mary , mother of Jesus)came later. That cleaned up womanhood for a while there. Grendel is a fierce critter, isn’t he; what are his origins and mama’s too ?
Why do you think he needed a mother to fight for him?

3rd part
Go ahead and do a little research on dragons. Put up some of your finds. How does this dragon “fit the bill?”
There is an existential matter that happens at the end of this poem, I believe, having to do with the nature of man. See if you can discuss how Beowulf, even in his frailty at the end of life, stays true to himself, while his men abandon him, except for one.

What are we to take away at the end about this man named Beowulf? Why is he worthy of an epic poem?
What do you see as some essential differences between the Dragon and Grendel?
